Champions League Heartbreak For Bayern Munich As Late Offside Call Denies Them Equalizer

Champions League heartbreak for Bayern Munich as late offside call denies them equalizer

De Ligt's goal ruled out after linesman's flag goes up

Bavarians left fuming after controversial decision

Bayern Munich were left fuming after a late offside decision against them in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals.

Matthijs de Ligt thought he had equalized for Bayern in the 89th minute, but the linesman's flag had already gone up and the referee ruled the goal out.

The decision was a controversial one, with replays showing that De Ligt was onside when the ball was played to him.

Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann was furious with the decision, accusing the referee of making a "clear mistake."

"It was a clear offside," Nagelsmann said. "The linesman was wrong, and the referee made a mistake by not overruling him."

The loss was a bitter blow for Bayern, who had fought back from a goal down to level the tie in the second half.

Real Madrid will now face Liverpool in the final in Paris on May 28.

The controversial offside decision will undoubtedly be a talking point in the build-up to the final.
